Not because it was bad. Because training — as most organizations do it — isn't designed to change behavior. It's designed to transfer knowledge. Those are very different things.
Five reasons AI training dies in 30 days
1. It's one-off. A half-day workshop. A Zoom with the vendor. A lunch-and-learn. Adults forget ~70% of new information within a week without reinforcement. (Ebbinghaus, replicated a dozen ways since.) If the learning stops after the session, so does the skill.
2. It teaches about AI instead of with AI. People walk out of most AI trainings able to define "prompt engineering." They cannot tell you what prompt to run on the variance analysis sitting in their inbox. Knowledge ≠ behavior.
3. There's no accountability. Nobody checks on day 3, day 10, day 30. Adoption quietly drops off — and by the time leadership notices, the narrative is already "AI didn't work for us."
4. The content is generic. "10 Prompts Every Knowledge Worker Should Know" is a blog post. Your FP&A analyst needs prompts for their board deck on their data. Your recruiter needs prompts for their screening workflow. Generic content produces generic usage — which usually means no usage.
5. Leaders can't see what's actually changing. Completion rates are not adoption. Quiz scores are not adoption. Even login counts are not adoption. Without a way to measure behavior at the role and workflow level, you're steering blind.
